What is a Chancery Judge?
A Chancery Judge is a judge who presides over a Chancery Court, which handles cases based on equity rather than criminal law. A Chancery judge deals with fairness- based legal issues.
Chancery courts differ in that they do not use juries; the Chancery Judge decides all issues in the case.
Common cases a Chancery Judge handles include:
-
Family law- (Divorce, Child custody & support, and Adoption)
-
Probate matters- (Wills, Estates, and Guardianships)
-
Property disputes- (Land or title issues, Boundary disputes)
-
Injunctions- (Court orders telling someone to do or stop doing something)
-
Trusts & conservatorships
